POSITION SUMMARY: 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

In conjunction with the CEO, Human Resources Director, Internship Program Director, and various other department leaders, the NEW HEIGHTS BMC Internship Program Coordinator will assist in implementing and coordinating the centralized company-wide internal and external internship program.


The position encompasses two distinct areas of responsibility:

  1. Internal Internship Development, Coordination, and Management assistance; and
  2. External Program Partners, Students, Academic Departments, and Employer Relations Management assistance.


The Internship Program Coordinator will coordinate all internship application intake, processing, student communications, program assessment, and program development for NEW HEIGHTS BMC’s Internship Program. In addition, the Internship Program Coordinator will assist with all NEW HEIGHTS BMC’s internship policies, practices, and delivery.

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively as a member of a team, provide information and direction to prospective internship program students, partners, and businesses, and will possess strong communicational and organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

Work with students and internship placement supervisors to ensure the appropriate coordination of the student’s placement in

terms of location, required hours, scope, relevance, and level of responsibility.


  • Provide coordination in the development and implementation of a viable internal/external internship program
  • Provide assistance to student employee(s) designated to assist with office activities pertaining to internships
  • Provide information to students, team members, company staff, external program partners, businesses, and government agencies, as well as college and university faculty, staff, parents, and administrators pertaining to the internship program
  • Provide assistance to the CEO, Human Resources Director, Internship Program Director, IT department, and various other company staff members, department leaders, and administrators pertaining to the internship program
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and administration on coordinating and implementing policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships
  • Continue to assist with the development and implementation of a centralized registration process for internships in conjunction with the CEO, Human Resources Director, Internship Program Director, and IT department
  • Assist in developing and providing engaged programming to increase students’ awareness of and successful participation in NEW HEIGHTS BMC Internship Program.
  • Assist in the coordination of marketing strategies used to connect students to experiential endeavors and jobs
  • Coordinate efforts to identify, develop and monitor current internship sites
  • Help plan and coordinate internship workshops and information programs
  • Research appropriate websites and resources to support the program
  • Assist with the assessment of the effectiveness of the internship program
  • Assist staff in development of employer relations through coordination of professional organization memberships
  • Assist in marketing the program and services through coordination of special events
  • Assist with production of program material and informational publications
  • Coordinate employer visits to promote students
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIANCE:


  • Requires high school diploma.
  • 2-3 years of career advisory or employment services experience
  • Must possess experience in career services and employment services environment to understand the culture
  • Must have the ability to effectively interact with team members, company staff, external program partners, businesses, and government agencies, as well as college and university faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators.
  • Familiarity with corporate and nonprofit human resource management.
  • Understanding of experiential education and career advising.
  • Experience in presentation of workshops or public speaking.
  • Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and personal growth.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and ethical boundaries with regard to guidelines, supervision, and professional consultation within the Student Development division.
  • Ability to respond professionally to common inquires and/or complaints from students, staff, employers, or community at large, regarding career programming and technology.

  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

CRITICAL SKILLS

Writing: Spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and writing are all essential competences.

Writing Styles: Must be proficient in a variety of styles including professional, technical, educational, and creative.

Decision-making: Expected to make independent decisions daily, addressing the best way to handle specific tasks. Communications and Collaboration: Must collaborate with other administrators, support personnel, management, and clients. Organizational Skills: Organization is an essential element, must know how to keep self and internship program staff organized. Prioritization Skills: Must be able to understand which position rank and which tasks are the most important on any given list.
