POSITION SUMMARY: 

NEW HEIGHTS BMC MEDIA guides brands, businesses, agencies and start-ups through the concept and development of user-friendly advertising & marketing products, promotions, and strategies that highlight the uniqueness of each brand’s proposition.

COMMUNICATIONS EDITOR I

The Communications Editor I write and reviews articles, documents, and statements used in the organization’s publications, press releases, and other informational materials. Responsibilities also include writing all the display copy like headlines and kickers.


The Communications Editor I is responsible for collaborating with management and other staff to determine what information is being released, researching topics and facts, and writing and editing documentation and other content. S/he helps gather research and artwork, conduct interviews with sources, and is also tasked with chasing up paperwork, archiving articles and other materials.

Serving as the expert source, the Communications Editor I proofreads, copy edit, and fact-check articles – reviewing the articles for factual accuracy and ensuring that all the information and statistics in the articles are also accurate – or provides input on the direction of an article before someone else writes it.

The Communications Editor I is also responsible for managing the work of Typing Clerks, and collaborating and liaising with regular Contributing Editors and Freelance Contributors – being responsible for proofreading the writing content, editing the work and materials written, acquiring text articles, and being responsible for the quality of those texts from each of these outsourced writers. The Communications Editor I will sometimes be the last person to sign off on a directory layout.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

The initial staff is expected to assume multiple roles while undertaking multiple responsibilities. Your duties may include:


  • Writing documents and statements used in the organization’s publications, press releases, and other informational materials.
  • Writing all the display copy like headlines and kickers.
  • Collaborating with management and other staff to determine what information is being released
  • Researching topics and facts
  • Writing and editing documentation and other content
  • Helping to gather research and artwork
  • Conducting interviews with sources
  • Following up on paperwork
  • Archiving articles and other materials.
  • Proofreading, copy editing, and fact-checking articles for factual accuracy
  • Providing input on the direction of an article before someone else writes it
  • Collaborating with and liaising among regular Contributing Editors and Freelance Contributors
  • Being responsible for proofreading writing content, and editing the work and materials written by outsourced writers
  • Acquiring text articles from outsourced writers
  • Being responsible for the quality of texts from outsourced writers
  • Signing off on a directory layout
  • Respecting and maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of NEW HEIGHTS BMC.
  • Complying with and adhering to all NEW HEIGHTS BMC policies and procedures.
